Written on April 12, 2008
Medical careers are the fastest growing careers right now–and one of the highest paying, to boot! When you think about medical careers, your mind most likely jumps to professions such as doctors, surgeons and nurses, however, today there are many other options available where you can help others, feel good about what you’re doing, enjoy your job and make a decent living.
Not a new medical marvel by any means, but still a fantastic way to maintain a perfect career with benefits and a 40 hour work week, making around $48,660 a year is to become an ultrasound technician, or sonographer, as technicians of that nature are in very high demand in the medical field. Sonography is more known for conducting ultrasounds for expecting parents, but ultrasound tech can also help diagnose various medical conditions.
There are several paths for starting your career as a sonographer, such as looking into the different ultrasound schools, which offer two and four year programs. You may also receive formal training in hospitals, vocational or technical schools and in the Armed Forces.
If you are interested in starting a career in the medical field, sonography is definitely worth looking into before you make your decision.
