Reading Is Important!
Written on January 10, 2008One of the biggest things when raising your children is making sure they read. Whether your schools reading program is up to par or not you have to make sure you set up your own standards for reading.
I have found that outside of schools homework you should assign ‘parents homework’ for your children. Now this may seem like much to some parents but reading is important. Regularly reading books not only expands children’s vocabulary, but it improves grammar and sentence structure. Sitting here I know I am not the expert in grammar or proper sentence structure. However, I want my children to be better at it than I am. That is the hope of a parent for their children to succeed more than they have.
Here at eFB we will be focusing on helping you expand your own library but your child’s. Giving out parenting homework is really good. You are encouraging children to read. The sooner you start the less ‘torturous’ it is for the older children if you are trying to instill this. Whether you tell them you want them to read a book for 20 minutes a night or 1 hour a week and discussing the book with them after their finished is important. Reading the book with them encourages them since you are reinforcing reading as you are doing it with them.
